the traditional tune first introduced to me by jorma kaukonen of hot tuna and jefferson airplane. i think gabi was listening to a garcia/grisman version when she first started singing the song.
afterwards, on the bass the harmony went from major blues to something very european, and slightly jazzy even.
lyrics
nickel's a nickel, dime's a dime.
i want my old boy, he don't mind
how long do i have to wait
can i have you now or need i hesitate?
dollar's a dollar, i don't care
it's not a dollar that i crave
how long do i have to wait, can i have you now
or need i hesitate?
